MedCPMedical literature for AI assistants

Terms of use

These terms govern your use of MedCP, a service that lets AI assistants and other software search the biomedical literature, read the full text of open articles and look up clinical trial records, through an API and an MCP server. You accept them when you create an access key.

Version 2, in force from 1 November 2026.

1. Who we are

MedCP is run by IDENTIQ, a SARL (société à responsabilité limitée) with a share capital of EUR 1,000, registered as RCS Paris 819 789 751, at 6 rue d'Armaille, 75017 Paris, France (“we”, “us”). Contact: [email protected]. More in the legal notice.

2. The service

  • MedCP searches MEDLINE citations (titles, abstracts, MeSH indexing, publication types, journals, dates and identifiers), with citation counts, open-access locations and retraction flags from open bibliographic data, and trial records from ClinicalTrials.gov.
  • It reads the full text of articles, one at a time: about 4.7 million from the PMC Article Datasets of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), with their figures, and about 3.3 million more extracted by machine from open-access PDF copies of the articles.
  • You reach it with an access key, through a REST API and an MCP server at api.medcp.app.
  • We apply NLM's updates every day, and every answer gives the date of the data it comes from. A PMC full text is read when you ask for it, in its latest version unless you ask for an earlier one, which is then marked as such. If updates stop, we say so on medcp.app and in the answers.
  • The service is free of charge. Before any paid plan, we give you at least 30 days' notice by email, and paid use needs your explicit agreement.

3. Who can use it

MedCP is open to individuals and to organizations. You must be at least 18 and able to accept these terms. If you sign up for an organization, you confirm that you may bind it. You are a “professional user” when you use MedCP for your trade, business, craft or profession, and a “consumer” otherwise.

4. Your access key

  • One active key per email address. Addresses that differ only by a “+” tag, or by dots in a Gmail address, count as one. A new key for the same address replaces the previous one, which stops working at once.
  • The key is shown once. We store only a fingerprint of it (a hash) and cannot show it again.
  • Keep it secret: not in public code, shared configuration or web pages. You are responsible for what is done with your key until it is replaced or revoked.
  • The key is for you and the software you run. Do not sell, publish or give it to others.
  • If you think it has leaked, request a new key on medcp.app: the old one stops working at once.

5. Limits

  • By default, each key may make 10,000 requests per day and 60 per minute, 100 reranked searches per day, and read 1,000 pages of full text per day. Daily counters reset at 00:00 UTC.
  • Each API request or MCP tool call counts as one request. Each page of full text (up to 20,000 characters by default) and each figure also counts against the full-text limit. A request refused for a limit is not counted.
  • New keys are capped per day; when the day's keys are created, sign-up resumes the next day (UTC).
  • We may change the limits. We announce lower limits on medcp.app at least 7 days ahead, except to stop abuse.
  • Do not get around the limits, for example with several email addresses, several keys or automated sign-ups.

6. Acceptable use

You may build agents, applications and research on top of MedCP. You must not:

  • download the citations or the full texts in bulk, or mirror them. NLM distributes the complete data free of charge (the MEDLINE files and the PMC Article Datasets): use them instead.
  • resell or sublicense access to the service, or offer it as your own API, without our written agreement.
  • put personal data about identifiable people in queries, in particular patients' health data. Query topics, not individuals.
  • attack, overload or probe the service, or test its security without our written permission.
  • use the service against the law or against the terms of its data sources (section 7).
  • suggest that NLM, PubMed, PubMed Central, ClinicalTrials.gov, any other source of the data or we endorse your product, or use the PubMed logo, the PMC logo or the PubMed Central wordmark.

7. Data sources and their terms

  • MEDLINE/PubMed data are produced by NLM. This service uses MEDLINE/PubMed data from the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Institutes of Health. NLM is not responsible for this service and does not endorse or recommend it or any other product.
  • If you redistribute data obtained through MedCP, follow NLM's terms and conditions: credit NLM (“Courtesy of the U.S. National Library of Medicine”), do not imply its endorsement, and keep the data current or say clearly that it is not.
  • Some abstracts are protected by their publishers' or authors' copyright. You are responsible for how you reuse them.
  • Full texts from PMC come from the PMC Article Datasets of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Institutes of Health (NIH NLM NCBI PubMed Central (PMC) Article Datasets on AWS). Articles are provided by their publishers or authors under the licence shown with each one; NLM is not responsible for this service and does not endorse it.
  • Citation counts, open-access locations and retraction flags come from open bibliographic data placed in the public domain (CC0). The full texts that do not come from the PMC Article Datasets are extracted by machine from open-access PDF copies of the articles and can miss or garble parts of an article, such as tables and formulas.
  • Trial records come from ClinicalTrials.gov, the clinical study registry of NLM; every answer that shows one gives the date the data were retrieved. NLM is not responsible for this service and does not endorse it.
  • Each full text keeps its own licence, which MedCP shows with it: a Creative Commons licence (CC BY, CC BY-NC, CC BY-NC-ND and others), an author manuscript made available for text and data mining, the publisher's own terms, or, for some texts extracted from PDF copies, no known licence, in which case the publisher's copyright applies. We grant you no rights in the articles. Before you copy, publish or share a full text, or use it commercially, check that its licence allows it, keep the credit it requires and NLM's acknowledgement, and keep the latest version or say that it is not.
  • NLM gives no warranty on the data. As NLM's terms require of redistributors, you agree to hold NLM and the U.S. Government harmless for errors in the data.

8. Not medical advice

  • MedCP returns bibliographic records and the texts of published articles. It is not a medical device and gives no medical, diagnostic or treatment advice.
  • Results can be incomplete, out of date or ranked imperfectly. Semantic search does not cover every article.
  • AI assistants can misread or misquote what they retrieve. Check the sources before you rely on them, and never use the service as the only basis for a clinical decision.
  • You are responsible for what your assistants and applications do with the results.

9. Availability and changes

  • We run the service as it is, with no service level. It may be slow, interrupted or changed, including its tools and fields.
  • We may end the service with at least 30 days' notice on medcp.app and by email. We may act faster when the law, NLM or a security issue requires it.

10. Withdrawal, suspension and termination

  • You may stop at any time. To have your key revoked and your data deleted, write to [email protected].
  • If you are a consumer, you may also withdraw from this contract within 14 days of creating your key, without giving a reason and at no cost, by writing to [email protected] or to our postal address. You may use the model form below, but you do not have to. We then revoke your key and delete your data.
  • We may suspend or revoke a key that breaks these terms, puts the service at risk or is used for abuse. Where we can, we warn you first by email and say why.

Model withdrawal form

To IDENTIQ, 6 rue d'Armaille, 75017 Paris, France, [email protected]: I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the MedCP service. Key created on: … Email address of the key: … Name: … Date: … (Signature, if this form is sent on paper.)

11. Intellectual property

  • The software, the site and the documentation belong to IDENTIQ. You get a limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the service.
  • We claim no rights over the MEDLINE data, the ClinicalTrials.gov records, the citation data or the full texts: the terms of their sources and each article's licence govern them.
  • Your queries and your integrations remain yours.

12. Warranty and liability

  • To the extent the law allows, the service comes without warranty of any kind, including accuracy, availability or fitness for a purpose.
  • To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, such as lost profit, data or business, nor for decisions based on results. For professional users, our total liability is limited to EUR 100.
  • Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow to limit, such as for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, nor the rights the law gives consumers.

13. Changes to these terms

We publish each new version on medcp.app with its date. We email you at least 30 days before a material change applies. If you keep using your key after that date, the new terms apply; if you refuse them, stop and ask us to delete your data.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. Disputes go to the courts of Paris, unless mandatory rules let a consumer sue where they live. If you are a consumer and we cannot settle a dispute after you write to [email protected], you may refer it free of charge to our consumer mediator: Alain Rolland, AMBO, Association de Médiateurs Bretagne Ouest, 112 rue Colbert, B37, 56100 Lorient, France, [email protected], www.mediation-consommation.ambo.bzh.
